What matters
- Transpacific is lifting the global index. Drewry’s WCI rose 1% to $4,500/FEU on Sep 17: Shanghai–LA $7,712 (+5%) and Shanghai–NY $10,394 (+7%), the index’s highest lane. Asia–Europe keeps falling. Drewry ties it to capacity management ahead of China’s Golden Week (early October) — lock Asia–Mexico space early, don’t just watch the spot rate.
- Manzanillo: the bottleneck is the road, not the berth. Maersk and C.H. Robinson’s September update flag roadworks and lane cuts on the Manzanillo–Guadalajara corridor with 3–8 hour delays (La Salada, Armería, Cuyutlán stretches). The ship arrives; the truck doesn’t. Quote all-in with a landside buffer and, if you can, a Lázaro plan B.
- Electronic value declaration: ~14 days left. It becomes mandatory on October 1, 2026 (SAT/ANAM release 53-2026). Through Sep 30 you can still use the transitional scheme; without a VUTCE folio, definitive clearance stops. Build the file (additives, related party, E15) this week — not next. Guide: new MVE extension.
- Asia–Mexico freight print landed this week. Eternity’s EAX for August printed $6,415/FEU (+21.4% MoM) on Sep 16 — the strongest level since mid-2024. Early-September spot was quoted near $8,000; Eternity still sees a path back toward $5,000–6,000, but only if you already have space. Book 3–4 weeks out and confirm the sailing, not just the rate.
- Peso steady around 17.15. Banxico’s FIX for Sep 15 was 17.1527 MXN/USD (DOF). No disruptive move this week; the rate that counts on the entry is still the DOF rate on clearance day.
