What you’re paying for
The three charges that define your import cost — and why your goods’ origin matters as much as their price.
Import duty (IGI)
Mexico’s general import duty: a percentage of the customs value that depends on the tariff code and the country of origin. With a treaty and a certificate of origin it often drops to 0%.
Customs processing fee (DTA)
Paid on every customs entry. The rate depends on the operation and the regime: under the general rate it’s proportional to the customs value; with treaty preference it’s usually a flat fee.
Import VAT
Calculated on the customs value PLUS the duty and other import charges — not just your invoice. For businesses it’s usually creditable against the VAT you collect.
