What matters

  • Golden Week: the print is in; capacity tightens this week. Drewry’s WCI on Sep 17 closed at $4,500/FEU (+1%): Shanghai–LA $7,712 (+5%), Shanghai–NY $10,394 (+7%). Drewry flags 9 Transpacific blank sailings for the following week (vs 8) and Shanghai berth wait rising from 65 to 78 hours. No fresher print as of Monday; the next WCI lands Thursday. Lock Asia–Mexico space now and confirm the sailing, not just the rate.
  • The Pacific absorbs Asia; the Gulf gives ground. Semar (Jan–Aug cut, published Sep 17): national boxes 6.51M TEU (+3.4%). Manzanillo 2.82M (+11%) —43% of the total— and Lázaro 1.81M (+4.9%). Pacific +7.1%; Gulf −7.1% (Veracruz −5.6%, Altamira −5.3%). If your cargo lands on the Pacific, plan a landside buffer: volume is still outrunning the road.
  • Electronic value declaration: final transition week. It becomes mandatory on October 1, 2026 (SAT/ANAM 53-2026). ~10 days left under the transitional scheme; without a VUTCE folio, definitive clearance stops. Facilities run through Dec 31 (pedimento annexes and E15 instead of full contracts) — use them, but don’t delay transmission. Guide: new MVE extension.
  • Laredo: more window for empties, not for laden freight. From Sep 14, CBP opens Colombia Solidarity Bridge one hour earlier (7:00 a.m.–midnight, Mon–Fri) for 90 days — tractors and empty trailers only. Laden freight is out of scope. If you reposition empties via Colombia, use the morning window; laden moves still watch live waits at World Trade / Colombia.
  • Peso: FIX at 17.2450. Banxico set 17.2450 MXN/USD on Sep 18 (last business day of the week; Sat/Sun N/A). Versus 17.1527 on Sep 15, the peso weakened ~0.5% week over week. The rate that counts on the entry is still the DOF rate on clearance day — not the bank window. Gap: no September EAX print yet; August’s $6,415/FEU remains the latest published Asia–Mexico reference.
